The West Valley Jazz Orchestra features a diverse selection of  world-renowned contemporary musicians: trumpeter Greg Adams; keyboard player Russell Ferrante; Joe Davis returns to West Valley College as his son, trombonist Michael Davis gives a special tribute to Joe, the founder, and for twenty years director, of the Jazz Studies program at West Valley College; and, in a special concert produced in association with the San Jose Jazz Society, trombonist Wayne Wallace

Over the past four years, it has been our privilege to have shared the stage with these inspiring musicians: Dave Eshelman, Dee Daniels, Horace Alexander Young, Hafez Modirzadeh, Wayne Wallace, Carl Saunders, Wayne Bergeron, Dave Weckl, Gerry Bergonzi, Aaron Lington, David Liebman, and Steve Smith.

What is hip?  Greg Adams was a founding member and trumpeter with the legendary Tower of Power.
   His career has included success as an arranger, composer, conductor, and performer and earned him both Grammy and Emmy nominations and an International Broadcasting Award from The Hollywood Radio and Television Society.  It has been a musical travelogue that has spanned nearly four decades, taking him on worldwide tours and contributing to some of the most important recordings in pop culture.

Keyboard Player Russell Ferrante

Russ is the keyboard player and founding member of the Yellowjackets.  Originally from San Jose, California, he is a prolific writer, producer and arranger, and has performed with, among others, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jim Pepper, Joe Farrell, Joni Mitchell, Bobby McFerrin, Robben Ford, Marilyn Scott, Ernie Watts, Sadao Watanabe, GRP Big Band, Lee Ritenour, Tom Scott, Take 6, Michael Franks, and Brenda Russell.

Trombonist Michael Davis A Tribute to Joe Davis

Joe Davis was the director of the jazz program at West Valley College for over 20 years, and a is legend in local jazz education.  His son Mike is a internationally known trombonist now based in New York.  He has established himself as a first-call sideman, both in the studio and on the concert stage, for the entertainment world’s biggest stars, including the Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nelly, Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.
