WVJO Tribute to Don Ellis, December 2008
The West Valley Jazz Orchestra will present a tribute to Don Ellis in mid-December 2008, on the 30th anniversary of his death.  Ellis was an extraordinary  jazz trumpeter, drummer, composer and bandleader known for musical experimentation and unusual time signatures.  His music is difficult; yet energetic, moving, and sometimes haunting.  Yes - we will be playing with STRINGS and additional instrumentation - so come be amazed and enthralled as we celebrate the life of this hero of  jazz and contemporary music.

This concert will be a very special benefit with a gala reception and assigned seating.  All proceeds will support the West Valley College Applied Music Scholarship program.   Stay tuned for more details; this will be one of THE jazz events of the year for the entire Bay Area!

The West Valley Jazz Studies program is sponsored in part by the following businesses and organizations.  We are grateful for their support of education and live jazz, and encourage our audience to visit and patronize them:

The Starving Musician (Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Berkeley)
West Valley Music (Mountain View) , Best Instrument Repair (Oakland, San Francisco, San Ramon)
Peninsula Music & Repair (Palo Alto), Hornucopia (San Carlos), World of Music (Cupertino)
